La palla è sempre in tombacco e è facilmente riconoscibile per la forma che tende a diminuire drasticamente, contrariamente a tutti gli altri modelli verso l'attaccatura della bocca | ||

La P.m.K. “Rotter streiffen” è di facile identificazione vista la vistosa banda rossa dipinta sul suo fondello, da cui prende il nome. Nel 1938 appaiono anche alcune cartucce verniciate nello stesso modo. Durante lo stesso anno però la Luftwaffe chiese che la quantità di vernice venisse drasticamente ridotta a causa degli inceppamenti verificatisi sulle sue mitragliatrici.

La "tropicalizzazione" veniva effettuata per l'utilizzo in climi caldo - umidi e doveva preservare la cartuccia da eventuali infiltrazioni di umidità al suo interno. Era riconoscibile per la fascia (tra palla e bocca del bossolo) del medesimo colore (rosso) dell'anello colorato presente sul fondello. Introdotta nel 1941 la produzione fu interrotta el luglio 1943 poco dopo la resa dell'Afrikakorps (maggio 1943). |

It was recognized by the band (between the ball and the case mouth) of the same color (red in this example) of the colored ring on the base. Introduced in 1941, production was stopped in July 1943 shortly after the surrender of the Afrikakorps (May 1943). |

Il "miglioramento" consisteva nell'utilizzo di 3,0 - 3,5 g di polvere del tipo Nitropenta Gew.R.P. che ne migliorava considerevolmente le prestazioni.
Era riconoscibile per una fascia di colore verde a circa metà altezza della palla
Veniva utilizzata dalla sola Luftwaffe e solamente sulle MG17
Le Verbessert vennero introdotte nel 1940
